Where Are the Sacrifices

I Peter 2:1-10

1 Peter 2:5 - Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

If you read all ten verses of the above mentioned Scripture you will see that as Believers we are a “royal priesthood” (v.9); and a “holy priesthood”(v.5); it is our privilege to “offer up spiritual sacrifices to God by Jesus Christ.”  What are these spiritual sacrifices?

We learn in Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Not a dead sacrifice, but a living sacrifice, yielded on the altar every minute of the day. Our bodies must be wholly surrendered to Him for His glory.

Prayer is another spiritual sacrifice we learn about in Psalm 141:2 – “Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” Prayer is more than a child telling his father what he needs; it is the priest offering fragrant incense to the great High Priest. When we look at prayer as a spiritual sacrifice, it makes us realize how far short we fall in our prayer life.

A third spiritual sacrifice is a broken heart; Psalm 51:17 – “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” How God rejoices to see a broken and contrite heart! Isaiah 66:2 – “For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

Have you brought these sacrifices to the Lord?
