Loving Like Jesus
Romans 12:18 - If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
How should we as Christians respond to someone who treats us badly or talks about us no matter how much effort we put into being nice to them?
One of the things we can do is remind ourselves of how Jesus was treated when He was here. Everywhere Jesus went, He was helping, healing, and ministering to the needs of those He met. Even then, we read what Jesus said in John 15:18 - If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
We should also remember that the way others treat you speaks more about who they are than about who you are. There are many things that you can’t control that could cause others to feel uncomfortable around you, such as past sins in their life, or they may be jealous of you and the apparent blessings that you enjoy. It could be any number of things beyond your control.
Lastly, none of these things give you the right to be unkind to those who treat you unkindly. Jesus said in Matthew 25:40 - And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
We have a duty to treat others as Jesus would. We are to honor God in how we treat those He brings across our paths.
