A Second Mile Christian
Matthew 5:41 - And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
D.L.Moody’s favorite portion of Scripture;
Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached from it at least 4 times per year and taught young preachers to do the same.
Moody was asked why he preached this so often and he said, “If you don’t get this right, you won’t get the Christian life right.”
I want you to look at four areas of your life and answer the question within yourself, “Am I a second-mile Christian in all these areas of my life?”
1. At home – Go to Eph 5:22 - Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Ephesians 5:21 - Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
2. At Church - Hebrews 10:25 - Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
3. On the job – Colossians 3:23, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” Most folks want a lot of pay for a little work!
4. With others – Romans 12:10 – “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another” At home, in the workplace, shopping, in traffic!
Are you a second mile Christian, if you don’t get this part right, you won’t get any of it right!
