Past – Present - Future

  1.  The Past of All Men

Four words describe the sad plight of all people until Jesus takes over.

We were helpless, without life and without strength. Ephesians 2:1 - And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.

We were hopeless, “having no hope” (Ephesians 2:12).

We were homeless. Without Christ a person is homeless. “…at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants 0f promise…” (Ephesians 2:12).

We were Godless, in a world packed with evidence of His wisdom and power. (Ephesians 2:12)

          2.  The Present

Let’s look first at the present of believers.

Because of the Grace of God, we are alive in Christ. “And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” (Ephesians 2:1) The Holy Spirit has breathed within believers the breath of a new life. A person does not begin to live until Jesus comes in.

We must also look at the present of the unsaved.

If you are unsaved, your condition is unchanged. What you were in the past, you still are.

You are condemned. “He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18)

         3. The Future

The past of every person is one of darkness and sin. The present for many of you has been changed by God’s love. Now, what about the future? This is the question people are asking today.

God, who knows everything, and by whom everything was made, has revealed His purposes and plans to men. He would have you know that there are only two places created for man’s eternal future. One is Heaven, and the other is Hell. You are asking, “How can I know where I will be in eternity?” I can tell you exactly, if you will answer one question truthfully: “What have you done with Jesus?” Is He your Saviour or not?

If Christ is your Saviour, you are as sure of heaven as if you were there right now. That is the Word of God “who cannot lie.” Your future is as glorious as the promises of God, for they are all yours.

If Christ is not your Saviour, you are as sure of Hell as if you were already there, unless you trust Jesus as Savior.
