Belief or Unbelief

Numbers 13:30-31 - And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

But the men that went up with him said, we be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

God had told the people to go in and possess the land, but the people wanted to spy out the land first to see if what God said was true. Well, they found out the land was beautiful, rich, and fruitful. But there were giants in the land! “We will not be able to defeat the giants,” most of the spies said.

The minority report came from Joshua and Caleb and Moses agreed with them: “we can overcome them!” The minority was already practicing what we learn in Romans 8:31-  “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

The majority saw the giants and how big they were, the minority were taking God at His Word and ready to obey Him.

Unbelief will cry and complain, “We can’t do it, we can’t accomplish the task before us!” The nation had the promises of God to lean on and the presence of God to depend on, but they preferred to walk by sight. This unbelief resulted in 40 years in the wilderness.

As Christians we do not fight for victory; we fight from victory, we have the promise of God for victory. Jesus tells us in John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” God used the Apostle John to teach us in 1 John 5:4 – “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

We are either overcomers or we are overcome!
