A Saved Mouth
Romans 3:10-18 – “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
Their feet are swift to shed blood:
Destruction and misery are in their ways:
And the way of peace have they not known:
There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
The picture Paul paints of the mouth of the unsaved man is not a very pretty one. He sees it as an open grave, full of poison and cursing and bitterness. Of course, the mouth is but the outlet for the heart, and the unsaved person’s heart is just as full of sin and rebellion. The lost sinner cannot argue with God; every mouth must be stopped when God declares His judgment.
But what a change takes place when a person gives their heart to Jesus. He believes with his heart, then he confesses with his mouth. Because his heart has been cleansed, his mouth is clean also! The mouth that was once filled with cursing is filled with blessing; the bitterness is replaced by sweetness, and everything is new.
Then his mouth joins with others to praise God and bring Him glory. The Bible nowhere encourages “solo lives,” but every where encourages us to join our hearts and mouths with those of other believers to glorify God. And just think of the great chorus we will join in Heaven when Jesus returns.
A saved heart must lead to a sanctified mouth – a mouth that glorifies God. Is your mouth filled with the glory of God – or the poison of sin?
