Looking for Fruit

Luke 13:6-9 - He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Seeking fruit, these words describe what the Lord is looking for in the lives of His people. What kind of fruit does the Lord want to find? The Apostle Paul says Jesus wants us to win souls. He told in his letter to Rome, “That I might have some fruit among you.” (Romans 1:9-13).

As Christians we should always be ready to share our testimony with others that they too can come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We read in 1 Peter 3:15 - But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “Ye shall be witnesses unto me.”

There is also the fruit of the Spirit we read about in Galatians 5:22-23, which means we should exemplify Christ in our lives. These qualities only come by the Holy Spirit. Fruit demands light and water; and as the Christian walks in light and drinks from the fountain of Living Water, he will bear fruit for God’s glory.

We also learn in Hebrews 13:15 - By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

The Lord loves to hear His people praise and thank Him. What a tremendous testimony thanksgiving is to a lost and dying world.
