Let God do the Work
I Samuel 14:1-14
As you read the verses listed above, the statement made by Jonathan in verse 6 ought to be the watchword of every believer today: “The Lord will work for us.” God honored his faith and gave him victory, just as He will honor our faith today. Of course, Jonathan did not sit down and expect God to do all the work alone. No, he made himself available as God’s tool for the task that needed to be done.
God is working for you today, even in the difficult circumstances of life. Paul assures you that your “light affliction, which is but for a moment,” is working for you and not against you (2 Corinthians 4:17). Suffering, heartache, burdens, disappointments – all of these actually work for the surrendered child of God who trusts God to work for him. Even tribulations work for us in developing Christian character (Romans 5:1-3).
Of course, Satan wants us to get our eyes off the Lord and on the circumstances of life, because then we will become so discouraged we will faint. “All these things are against me,” Jacob complained when his sons brought him bad news from Egypt (Genesis 42:36); yet all things were working together for his good, because Joseph was down in Egypt getting ready to welcome his father and brothers into his heart and home!
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). “The Lord will work for us.” Amen and Amen!
