Small Deeds Count

Psalm 115:13  He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.

Romans 2:6  Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

What seems small to you might be huge to someone else. I read about a man by the name of Bohn Fawkes. During World War II he piloted a B-17. On one mission he sustained flak from Nazi anti-aircraft guns. Even though his gas tanks were hit the plane did not explode, and Fawkes was able to land it. On the morning following the raid Fawkes asked his crew chief for the German shell that had hit the gas tank, to keep as a souvenir of his good fortune. The chief explained that not just one shell had hit but eleven had been found in the gas tank, none of which had exploded. Technicians opened the shells and found them void of an explosive charge. They were clean and harmless, and with one exception, empty. The exception contained a carefully rolled piece of paper. On it a message had been written in the Czech language: “This is all we can do for you now.” A courageous assembly line worker was disarming bombs and scribbled that note. He couldn’t end the war, but he could save one plane. He couldn’t do everything, but he could do something, and he did it.

So, send that note of encouragement. Make that phone call. Write that check.

Moses had a speech impediment, but God used him,

David only had a sling, but God gave the victory over the giant.

Rahab had a string, and the spies were delivered.

Dorcas had a needle, and she will be remembered for all eternity for her compassion and good deeds.

The widow had a mite, and Jesus recognized the sacrifice she made.

A young boy had his lunch, and Jesus used it to feed thousands.

What do you have?

John Wesley said, “”Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can.

“With God small deeds count.”
