Being Honest with God
My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself: I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. Job 10:1
You can understand Job's bitterness; he had lost everything--family, possessions, health, even his friends. But the hardest blow of all was that he couldn't understand why the God he had worshipped and served so faithfully had done this to him.
Have you ever felt this way? Life can be hard, leaving us confused or even angry and bitter. And like Job, you may have told God exactly how you felt. And why not? He already knew your mind and heart, and He doesn't want you to pretend that everything is all right when it isn't. God didn't chastise Job for his honesty; He understood Job's heartache, just as He understands ours. And God still loved Job, just as He still loves us.
But Job didn't just keep complaining (as we're prone to do). Instead, he turned toward God in faith, and in time, God gave him comfort and peace. Not all of Job's questions were answered--but he realized that God can be trusted even when we don't understand. May this be true of you.
