Characteristics of a Successful Christian
Psalm 1
Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
We learn in this verse the importance of taking the right path in life. Jeremiah 6:16 - Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Jesus taught us in Matthew 7:13 - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Matthew 7:14 - Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Psalm 1:2 - But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
We learn in verse two the importance of what we practice. Do you delight in the Word of God? Is your devotional time a time of hurry up and get finished or is it a time of delight as you allow the Heavenly Father to commune with you?
Psalm 1:3 - And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Verse three teaches us the importance of standing on the Truth of God’s Word. We read in Psalm 57:7 - My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.
That word “fixed” means firmly set. To live a successful Christian life, we should be firmly standing and delighting in the right path of God’s Word!
