When Judgment Comes

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?  1 Peter 4:17

Does God's judgment happen only after we die? Or does it take place now, before we die?

The answer is both. Someday we each will die and stand before God to give an account of our lives--and if we have ignored God and turned away from His offer of salvation, we can only expect His judgment. The Bible is clear: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Those are sobering words that we ignore at our peril.

But the Bible warns us that God also brings judgment upon us in this life. The Bible says, "Ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23). The headlines are filled with people who thought they could sin and get away with it--only to have their sin come out in the open and bring their lives crashing down.

Don't ever take God's judgment lightly--and don't ever take sin lightly. God doesn't take them lightly. The proof is that they cost His dear Son His life.
