Facing the Battles

2 Timothy 2:1 - Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ

Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:2 - And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses,

the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 2:3 - Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

What comes to your mind when you think of a soldier? I think of a

disciplined person, a person who understands and respects authority, a person

willing to take a stand and defend his position.

That is what the Apostle Paul is telling young Timothy in the above verses.

Paul had told Timothy previously in 1 Timothy 1:18 - This charge I commit unto

thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee,

that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

In many cases Christians today have forgotten there is a war taking place, a

conflict that is spiritual. We are told in Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against

flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers

of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We must come to the realization that there is danger in being so worldly

minded that we are no heavenly good. We are simply ambassadors here

representing our heavenly home.

Recognize that there is an enemy that wants to destroy our testimony, destroy

our family, our church and community. 1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant;

because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking

whom he may devour:

As Christians, we can take comfort in the fact that we can stand strong in

Jesus and the power of His might!
