Attributes of God’s Love – 7
Sympathy - The Fellowship of Love
1 John 4:7 - Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone
that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Sympathy is defined as a person feeling for another person. So, how to we
demonstrate this attribute of God?
We are told in Galatians 6:2 - Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law
of Christ.
We see in Galatians 6:2 one way to demonstrate the sympathy of God is to be
willing to bear one another’s burdens. When we do so the Scripture says we
are fulfilling the law of Christ.
Which law is being spoken of? We find the answer in Luke 10:27 - And he
answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy
neighbour as thyself.
The Book of James calls it the Royal Law in Jamess 2:8 - If ye fulfil the royal
law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye
do well:
We learn another way to show this attribute of God in Hebrews 13:3 - Remember
them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity,
as being yourselves also in the body.
If we are going to be the light of the world, if we are going to be the salt of
the earth, we can do that by demonstrating these seven attributes of God:
Compassion, Kindness, Grace, Mercy, Sacrifice, Pity, and Sympathy.
