Learning How to Pray
Matthew 7:7 - Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Jesus not only instructs us to pray, He teaches us how and gives examples in Matthew 9:18-30.
First, we learn about a man who came asking in Matthew 9:18 - “While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, my daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.” There was a delay in getting the answer if you read verses 18-30, but the answer did come.
While Jesus was going to answer the man’s prayer about his daughter, we learn of a woman making her way through the crowd seeking Jesus, she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was healed. Matthew 9:21-22 - For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. “Seek and ye shall find!”
Then we learn of two blind men who followed Jesus to the house He had entered, they knocked, entered, and both were healed. What if they had stopped outside not wanting to knock, not wanting to go in, they may never have had their sight restored. Matthew 9:30 - And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, see that no man know it.
Ask, seek, knock, this simple prayer promise has worked for others, and it can work for you.
