Forsaken to Free You

Matthew 27:46 - And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

When Jesus shouted these words, it was the ninth hour, right when the slaughter of the Passover lambs would have started in the temple. As priests made the offering to remember Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12) another Lamb – The Lamb of God – was being sacrificed on the cross for our release from the bondage of sin and the penalty of sin which was death.

We are wise to heed the words of Jesus as He became our sin offering. “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” In that moment, the sins of the whole world were placed upon Jesus, it must have made Him feel isolated, helpless and hopeless. But Jesus took that penalty on Himself so that you wouldn’t have to endure it any longer – you could be set free from the painful separation from God because of sin.

So, whenever you feel hopeless, rejected or alone, remember Jesus has been where you are and welcomes you with outstretched arms. He has given everything so that your relationship with Him could be right and you could be free from the bondage of sin.
