Handling Heartbreak
Luke 23:55 - And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid.
Luke 23:56 - And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
After a devastating loss, the quiet times afterward are sometimes the most difficult to get through. The best thing to do during these times is to do what you normally do. Take care of what needs to be done and ask the Lord to help you understand what has happened.
Jesus’ followers after His death and burial, we are told, rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment. They continued to do what God had called them to do regardless of the circumstances. Everything about the Sabbath would be a reminder of Jesus, the prayers, the blessings, and the rituals all pointing to Christ. We learn from the disciples to keep focusing on Jesus even when all hope seems to be lost.
It’s not denying your feelings of loss and despair; it is taking those feelings to Him. You can be assured that He will give you comfort, hope and peace that passes all understanding.
