Serve God with Joy
1 Timothy 6:17, the last part of that verse says, …the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy! We should enjoy the Christian life!
1 Corinthians 16:15 - I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
The household of Stephanas had committed themselves to the service of God. We looked at yesterday how being addicted to the ministry involved serving God by the Light of His Word!
Today we see in the above verse that when we serve God we should do it joyfully. It should not be, “I have to read the Word of God,” it shouldn’t be, “I have to go to Church.” It is a tremendous blessing to be able to read and study the Book that the Creator of the Universe wrote for you and me. It is a privilege to get to go to Church, hear God’s Word taught, preached, and to be able to sing praises to His Wonderful Name.
Philippians 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
One hundred and eighty-three verses in the Bible contain the word rejoice 192 times. This is a commandment to a Christian, a believer. Rejoice in the Lord always. That means regardless of the day, whether it is dark or bright, whether it is difficult or easy, whether it brings problems and temptations or clear sailing on cloud nine. We are commanded to rejoice. He repeats it, in case we missed it the first time: “again I say, Rejoice.” Joy is something we cannot produce ourselves; it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
We read in Nehemiah 8:10 - ……. joy of the LORD is your strength.
There is no power in a Christian's life if he has no joy. One who does not experience the joy of the Lord has no power at all.
Addiction to serving God and serving others results in enlightenment and joy.
