Something about That Name

Luke 2:21 - And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Jesus: There’s just something about that name!” The Gaither Trio sang on the Sony CD using that title. As He is King of kings, so His name is above all names. Jesus is a simple word. Yet somehow His name stirs the deepest passions in humanity. To believers it’s a holy word; to others it’s a curse.

The Bible says in Matthew 1:21 – “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” We’re to forsake all for His Name, and though we will be hated by all nations because of His Name, the message of repentance and remission of sins is to be preached in His Name to all nations (Matthew 19:29; 24:9; Luke 24:47).

Peter reminds us in  Acts 4:12 - Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. And the Apostle Paul teaches us in Philippians 2:10-11 – “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus! Because of His Name, ours are written in heaven.

How sweet the name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his fear.
