No Vacancy
There was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7
Before we denounce the unaccomodating citizens of Bethlehem, we should admit that many people still refuse to make room for Him. Millions remember Jesus' birthday and speak His name in holiday greetings, yet they consistently close their hearts to Him, saying in effect, "There is no room in my soul for Christ."
We hear great cries for tolerance--but consider the bigotry toward followers of Jesus. There is no room for His Word in our culture: our children are without reverence for God or faith in the Bible. There is no room for our Lord's creed of purity and self-denial: the media sends forth a constant barrage of profanity, indecency, and materialism. There is no room for the promise of His cross and His blood: the angel's statement that "He will save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21) is rejected by those who deny that the Child in the manger is our Emmanuel, "God with us."
What will you do to make more room in your heart--and in your life--for Jesus?
