Focus on the Unseen

Hebrews 11:27 - By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Because we cannot see the future, our lives are full of unknowns. Some people respond to those unknowns with faith while many panic out of fear and frustration. So how can we be sure to react with courage and confidence?

In today’s verse, we read about Moses and the confidence that carried him through many frightening unknowns. The Greek word for endure is defined as “the capacity to bear up under difficult circumstances.” When we persevere, refusing to surrender our hope, we gain spiritual maturity.

So how did Moses endure? He did so by keeping his focus on “Him who is invisible”---on God. In other words, the key to perseverance in a world full of job insecurities, family instabilities, and unpredictable world events is to keep our eyes on the Lord.

Moses was not that different from you when it comes to fears, weaknesses, limitations, and faults. And daily he was challenged with persecution, the threat of death, and all sorts of trials. He simply chose to respond to his difficulties with hope, patience, and perseverance. You can too. So take his example---endure by keeping your focus on “Him who is invisible.”
