The Blessings of Work

2 Thessalonians 3:10 - For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

The ability to work is a privilege and it is a command of God. From the beginning, God had placed Adam in the garden to keep it. We read in Genesis 2:15 - And the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Many think that the command of work came as a result of man’s sin. But the curse was that work now would be by the sweat of the brow. Work had already been assigned to man.

We should look at the tasks that we have to complete as assignments from the Lord. We learn in Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Colossians 3:24 - Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Sometimes we have work to do that seems thankless and maybe even unpleasant to do, but we should look at these tasks “as unto the Lord!” It is important to understand and remind ourselves that the Lord sees our work, He sees our efforts and will bless and reward all for our obedience to Him.
