God's Sovereign Power and Constant Presence

The LORD shall reign forever.  Psalm 146:10

If we looked only at the headlines every day, we would have good reason to be pessimistic about the future. But don't forget two important truths.

First, the future is in God's hands, and nothing takes Him by surprise. He is sovereign over the history of the world as well as our personal histories, and behind the scenes He is at work to accomplish His purposes. Even when the future seems dark, we can turn to God--who "reigns forever"--and trust the future into His hands.

Second, never forget that even when the future is unclear, God is with those of us who are trusting Christ as our Savior and Lord, and He helps us. The apostle Paul faced great danger and uncertainty, but he could still say, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 3:13). No matter what the future holds for you--no matter what today holds for you--you do not face it alone if you know Christ.
