Cheerfully Giving

2 Corinthians 9:6 - But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Read all of II Corinthians chapter 9 to get the full context of this devotional.

There is an old saying that goes like this, “every cloud has a silver lining.” Regarding this saying, someone during the Great Depression made this comment, “It’s fine that clouds have a silver lining, but how do you get it to the bank to spend it?”

Jesus Christ is sufficient not only for man’s spiritual needs, but also his material needs. We read in 2 Corinthians 9:8 - And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

What a tremendous promise in the Word of God. All grace – always – all sufficiency – all things – every good work. Read that verse again and thank the Lord for His promises.

For sure God is concerned about your material needs. We learn in Matthew chapter 5 that He feeds the birds and even knows when a sparrow falls dead to the earth. 2 Corinthians 9 deals primarily with the Apostle Paul collecting offerings to help the poor saints in Jerusalem. He assures the givers that their faithful stewardship would result in God’s faithful care for their needs.

If a person is careless in their stewardship, that person cannot claim this promise. But the Christian who knows how to give to the work of the Lord will find God giving back to him in greater measure than ever he gave to others. Christ is sufficient for every need when you are in the will of God.
