The Submissive Mind
Yesterday we looked at having the single mindedness of the Apostle Paul in Philippians chapter one. He had learned to follow Jesus’ instructions given in Matthew 6:33 - But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Today let’s look at Philippians chapter 2, “The Submissive Mind.”
Philippians 2:3 - Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
We see in verses 1- 11 of Philippians chapter 2 the example of Christ, where we read, Philippians 2:8 - And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
In verses 12-18 we see the example of Paul the Apostle where we read in Philippians 2:16 - Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
In verses 19-24 we see the example of Timothy where we’re told in Philippians 2:22 - But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
Then we see in verses 25-30 the example of Epaphroditus where we learn
Philippians 2:25 - Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
All these are examples of the importance of 1 Peter 5:6 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
