How Healthy is Your Heart
Psalm 139:23-24 - Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.
There is a commercial on tv that asks the above question, “How healthy is your heart?” The truth of the Word of God teaches us in Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? The world we live in wants us all to believe there is goodness in every person, so it is hard for them to accept that our hearts are wicked.
King David knew all about wickedness as he betrayed the captain of his army, Uriah, to marry Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. This deception lasted until David was confronted by Nathan the Prophet. When confronted, David immediately confessed and repented. His confession wasn’t one of just being sorry he got caught; his confession was one of brokenness with a desire to get right with God.
The Word of God teaches us that we can’t know our own heart without the help of Scriptures. Everyone needs to pray the prayer of David, “Search me O God and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts: and see if there is any wicked way in me, lead me in the way everlasting.
