The Light of the World
Matthew 5:14 - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Matthew 5:15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
There is an old saying, “Put a Light in the window.” There are different ideas about the history of this saying, but one that I particularly like goes like this; A light was placed in the window to signal those who passed by that in this place there is hope, food, and shelter.
Spiritually speaking as Christians, Jesus commanded us to let our lights shine to signal the hope that we have within us because of our trust in Jesus as our Savior.
We are commanded also in 1 Peter 3:15 - But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
When folks see our lights shining, we are given the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, that they also can be a light to a lost and dying world.
