The Midnight Cry

Matthew 25:6 - And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

There is an old song we used to sing in Children’s Church that went like this, “Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning, burning, burning. Give me oil in my lamp I pray.” It is from the story Jesus was telling in Matthew chapter 25.  There were ten virgins who were to make ready their lamps to be ready for the bridegroom. They didn’t know when he would arrive, so they were to remain ready. Five of them were prepared but the other five were not.

All ten were virgins, but only half of them were ready. The half that wasn’t ready were excluded from the wedding supper. The door was closed leaving the unprepared outside. We read in Matthew 25:13 - Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.

The Apostle Paul told the church at Corinth in 2 Corinthians 13:5 - Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Make sure the oil of the Holy Spirit is in your heart and that you are prepared to meet the Lord Jesus Christ.
