The Greatness of Salvation

From a Sermon by C.E. Matthews

Hebrews 2:3 - How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the

first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that

heard him;

The gift of salvation is not just great it is “So Great.” So great that nothing

man could conceive can compare to it. It is so great that the Apostle Peter

tells us in the last part of 1 Peter 1:12 - …which things the angels desire to look

into.

First, this salvation is so great because it saves us from hell. That is enough.

Read the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke chapter 16. Meditate on

it as you see the rich man crying out from the torments of hell, asking

Abraham to send someone to his brothers to warn them not to come to this

awful place. In essence he was saying, I don’t ever want to see my brothers

again, if they must come to this awful place of torment.

Hell has no claim on a person, thank God, who has this So Great salvation.

Trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ today. Accept the gift of salvation

that is so great! You may ask, “How do I do that?”

  1. Realize you are a sinner - Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and

come short of the glory of God;

  1. Understand the penalty for sin - Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is

death;

  1. Realize Jesus paid the penalty - Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth

(or showed) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

  1. Ask Jesus to save you - Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon

the name of the Lord shall be saved.
