Eternal Security

What is the basis for this belief?

What would I have to do to lose my salvation?

Which sin would be bad enough to lose that which Christ has paid for?

Let’s look at Scripture. Will the following result in loss of salvation?

Lack of Spiritual Growth

Read II Peter 1: 1-11

These verses indicate that a person who has faith but does not add to it is blind and cannot see afar off, in other words they have no spiritual discernment. They will forget they were purged or cleansed from their old sins!

So, I learn from these verses that a person who does not grow spiritually does not lose their salvation, though they will forget they were cleansed.

Lack of Morals

Read I Corinthians 5:1-5

These verses tell us of a man at the church in Corinth who was involved in what we would call a terrible sin! Yet the Bible says, turn him over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

So, we know the Lord Jesus wants us as believers to grow spiritually and He wants us to avoid sin, but neither of these can affect our eternal security that is based on what Christ has done.

While neither of these things can affect our eternal security, both will affect our ability to live the abundant life Christ wants us to live.
