Second Coming of Christ

 

As believers, what should be our attitude toward the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus promised His disciples and you and I that He will return in John 14:3 - And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

We know that Jesus did go away, He ascended back to Heaven. Just as sure as he went away, He will come again, so, let’s look at what the Bible says about how our attitude about His return should be.

First, we are to wait. 1 Corinthians 1:7 - So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 

That word “waiting,” means to “expect fully,” that is full assurance that Jesus is coming back.

We are also commanded to “Look for” His coming in Titus 2:13 - Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 

“Looking for that blessed hope”—this is the next happening in the program of God: Christ is coming to take His church out of this world.

We are also taught to love His coming in 2 Timothy 4:8 - Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 

We are to love, look for, and fully expect the glorious return of Jesus to call all believers, the church, to be with Him for all eternity.
