Be Still
Psalm 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:11 - The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Do you sometimes feel like your world has turned upside down? In the above verses we are told how to respond when we think things are spiraling out of control.
The key is to “Be Still.” This may seem like it would just add to the problems, but to be still simply means stop worrying. Stop trying to take care of everything with only your limited wisdom. Instead, learn to actively wait, watch and listen for the Lord’s guidance.
In other words, focus on Jesus rather than current circumstances. You do that by getting alone with God and waiting for Him to speak to your heart. Don’t just talk to Him, be still and listen for Him, His prompting, His guidance. Remind yourself of His promises in Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
That verse in Psalm 46:11 ends with the word “Selah,” which is like a musical note that wants you to pause. Be still, pause, and remind yourself, God is in control of all things. Praise His Name!
