God is Sufficient

II Corinthians 3:1-6

The Apostle Paul asks a personal question in II Corinthians 2:16: “Who is sufficient for these things?” By “these things” the apostle means the demands and sacrifices of the Christian life. Who is sufficient for living a creative, victorious Christian life?

But Paul does more than ask the question; he gives us the answer! Our sufficiency is of God. We have no power on our own; but we belong to the One who is the very power and wisdom of God!

Christ is sufficient for a person’s spiritual needs. We draw upon His fullness of grace, according to John 1:16; and Philippians 4:13 declares that the believer can “do all things through Christ” who strengthens him. Because as believers we are united to Christ, His spiritual resources are available to each of us. That is what Paul meant when He testified, “Not I, but Christ liveth in me” Galatians 2:20. The Christian life is not lived by imitation, but by incarnation: He lives out His life in and through each believer.

Do you know by faith what it means to be “strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man” Ephesians 3:16? Do you draw upon God’s limitless resources of grace by claiming His promises and calling upon Him in prayer? No matter what spiritual demands are made upon you, our Savior is sufficient to meet them. Christ can enable us to be faithful witnesses at work, a good parent at home, and a good neighbor in your community. Don’t depend on your own strength today. Depend on the sufficiency of Him who is all-sufficient for every spiritual need in our lives.
