Maturing as Believers -3

 

We began a study on what it means to grow spiritually as a believer. We looked at the foundation of the Christian life that must be faith in Jesus Christ. Then we must add virtue or courage as the word is defined. Let’s look at what God commands us to add next.

2 Peter 1:5 - And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

So, the next step in growth for believers is to add knowledge. We must be careful here because there is worldly knowledge and godly knowledge. Don’t forget that sin started at the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

We are instructed in the last part of Romans 16:19  …….. , but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. We read in 1 Corinthians 8:1 - Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

In this verse we’re looking at, knowledge means the knowledge of God, learning more about God.

How do we do that? We spend time in His Word. If we want to be able to look at life from God’s perspective we must have faith in Jesus, we must have the courage and discipline to dedicate time to know more about Him from His Word! Let’s keep growing in our Christian lives.
