Let’s Capture a Mountain
Joshua 14:12 - Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
Age ought never be a barrier to Christian service or victory. Here was Caleb, eighty-five years old, asking to clean out a nest of giants so he might claim a mountain for his inheritance. What a man of faith!
Most other men would have settled for a smaller inheritance – one that was less demanding. But not Caleb! “Give me this mountain!” He had seen the Lord do great things in Egypt and in the wilderness, and he knew that God could do great things for him. “And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).
Caleb was a man of faith. He knew that God was true and He kept His promises; so, Caleb leaned heavily on the promises of God. He did not trust his own feelings or what men said about God’s promises. He trusted the Lord.
All of us face mountains in our lives, those dangerous and seemingly unsurmountable difficulties that lie before us. We can settle for a little retreat in the valley, or we can step out by faith and capture the mountain for the Lord. God is looking for overcomers like Caleb, people of faith who forget the difficulties as they boldly face the challenges. “Be of good cheer,” says our Savior, “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Get up and capture that mountain!
