Humble Yourself
1 Peter 5:6 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
There are many dangers in life that we can avoid if we follow the road signs found in the Scriptures. Make no mistake about it, pride is the Christians number one enemy. So, how do we avoid this danger? We do that by humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God.
To humble ourselves requires discipline. Thinking about this, anything we do in life that we expect to be successful at requires discipline. If we want success in financial matters, we must discipline ourselves to live within our means. If we want to be healthy, we must discipline ourselves to eat healthy foods and exercise.
The same type of discipline is required if we are to be successful spiritually. We learn in Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. When we are self-centered or conceited, we’re headed toward spiritual disaster. But we can avoid the pitfalls of pride if we will do as the above verse teaches and humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.
To humble ourselves means to recognize the power and presence of God and having an awareness of standing before our King of Kings. Most definitely that will keep us from the sin of pride.
