Blessed Assurance

Hebrews 10:22 - Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,

What a blessing some of the old Scripturally based songs are, one of them is entitled “Blessed Assurance,” written by Fanny J. Crosby. Part of it goes like this,

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, O what a foretaste of glory divine.

Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.”

There is blessed assurance found in God’s Word. Where there is no assurance there is no peace. When there is no peace, there is no joy. We are told in Philippians 4:6 - Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

The word “careful” used there means “anxious.” We are told not to be anxious. A person who has no assurance will be anxious about the things in this life. We can have assurance that God’s Word is true and it contains no errors. We can have assurance of our salvation as we learn in 1 John 5:13 - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The key word in that verse is “know.” We can know, we can have assurance of our salvation by the Word of God. We can have that “Blessed Assurance” that Fanny J. Crosby wrote about.
