The Enemy Within

Romans 8:31 - What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

I want to show you today from the Truth of God’s Word who it is that is against us.

The primary one to overcome each day is the one who you see in the mirror;

What is it about this world that is so distracting from the Truth of the Word of God?

A. The lust of the flesh – Our flesh wants us to follow after it, to watch out for it, to love it and walk in it. But God says in Galatians 5:16, “Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

Galatians 6:8, "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

Romans 7:8, “For I know that in me, (that is in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing."

B. The lust of the eyes – Many of us need to do as Job did in Job 31:1, and that is to make a covenant with our eyes. We need to say as David did, I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes. It is very important to protect the eye gate of our bodies, WHY? Because Jeremiah tells us in Lamentations 3:51, Mine eye affecteth mine heart.

C. The Pride of Life – Proverbs 16:18, Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Pride is the original sin of Satan and that old sin still haunts folks today.

How do you overcome the enemy of self-centeredness?

  1. Trust Christ as your savior.
  2. Follow the Lord in believer’s baptism.
  3. Join a local Bible believing and teaching Church.
  4. Study the Word of God.
  5. Walk in the Spirit.
