Fountain of Youth
Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
What do you think of when you hear the name Ponce DeLeon. Historically we read the following: Juan Ponce de León, born into Spanish nobility, was a soldier and explorer who served as governor of the eastern province of Hispaniola when he decided to explore a nearby island, now known as Puerto Rico. In pursuit of a rumored fountain of youth located on an island known as Bimini, Ponce de León led an expedition to the coast of Florida in 1513. Thinking it was the island he sought, he sailed back to colonize the region in 1521 but was fatally wounded in a Native American attack soon after his arrival.
He, like a lot of folks, sought a fountain of youth. As we get older and we begin to struggle to do the things which at one time were easy, we might wish that Ponce DeLeon was successful in finding that fountain of youth.
As believers we know that the fountain is something more than just water, it is in the precious blood of Jesus Christ that as we trust in His redemptive work, we gain eternal life!
The old hymnal puts it like this:
There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Trust Jesus, experience eternal life!
