Be Established
2 Thessalonians 2:17
"Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work."
“Stablish you” means we are to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God so that we are not carried away by every wind of doctrine.
In order to comfort hearts and establish people the Word of God must be preached. People will never get the comfort they need without getting under the preaching of the Word of God. People will never be established in the faith without hearing God's Word preached. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
The second step to being comforted and established in the faith is to work. In other words, the comfort of God will never quite do its complete work without people serving God. This is why there are people who are never healed from their hurts because they don't work for the LORD. You will never be established in the faith just by hearing, but you must be a doer as well.
It is the Word of God then that will lead you to do the work of God.
If you want to let comfort do its entire work in your heart, and if you want to be established in the faith so that you are never deceived by false doctrine, then you must be faithful to church so you can hear the preaching you need, and you must also get involved serving God. Both hearing and working are a package deal in receiving the comfort you need and being established in the faith.
James puts it like this in James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
