God’s Word is like a Hammer

We have seen how that God’s Word is like a mirror. James 1:23 – “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:”

We have seen in the verse below that God’s Word is like a fire that has different effects, according to the material on which it works; it hardens clay, but softens wax; it consumes the dross, but purifies the gold. We also see in the verse below that the Word is like a hammer.

Jeremiah 23:29 - Is not my word like as a fire? Saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

It is compared likewise to a hammer breaking the rock in pieces. The unhumbled heart of man is like a rock; if it will not be melted by the word of God as the fire, it will be broken to pieces by it as the hammer. Whatever opposition is given to the Word, it will be borne down and broken to pieces.

God will use His Word to mold us, just like a sculptor uses a hammer to knock away everything that doesn’t look like the image He is working on.

When God sees Christ in us, He uses the hammer of His Word to knock away everything that doesn’t look like Christ.

When we fail to listen to the Word of God, we are denying the Holy Spirit the ability to use the hammer to mold us and make us in the image of Jesus Christ.
