Being an Example

Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We are all an example to someone, whether good or bad. The above verse teaches us to be an example of light. Jesus tells us in John 9:5 - As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Now that Jesus has ascended back to the Heavenly Father, He has commanded us to be the light of the world.

When Jesus was here He humbled Himself according to Philippians 2:5-8 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

How do we let our lights shine? By recognizing the needs of those around us. There are folks with physical, financial, emotional, and spiritual needs. Everyone we meet needs someone to encourage them.

When we perform acts of service meeting the needs of those God brings across our paths, we are letting our lights shine as commanded by Jesus.
