God’s Word is like a Lamp
We have seen how that God’s Word is like a mirror. James 1:23 – “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:”
We have seen that God’s Word is like a fire that has different effects, according to the material on which it works; it hardens clay, but softens wax; it consumes the dross, but purifies the gold. We also have seen that the Word is like a hammer that can break in pieces and then rebuild a life for the glory of God. We looked at the Word of God described as a “sharp two-edged sword” discerning the very thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Don’t neglect the Word of God.
Today we see the Word defined as a “Lamp and light.
Psalm 119:105 - Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Proverbs 3:6 - In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Psalm 119:133 - Order my steps in thy word:
How will He direct our path, by the Light of His Word.
1John 1:5 - This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1John 1:6 - If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Those who walk in darkness are subject to stumble and fall, walk in the light of the Word of God.
