The House

II Corinthians 5:1

“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” II Corinthians 5:1

In these words, the apostle Paul compares our earthly, physical bodies to tents and points out their limitations. Our lives in these earthly bodies will never be completely comfortable. They are;

  • Temporary
  • Often unsafe
  • Frequently uncomfortable, and
  • Ultimately destructible

In the beginning, God created perfect people with wonderful bodies. But Adam’s first sin opened the door on planet earth to aches and pains, surgeries and therapy, vitamins and supplements, heating pads and ice packs, death and grief, and so much more.

Right now I dwell in this tent, but it is only temporary. In death we will give up this tent-like body. In heaven we will inherit a permanent home from God. Human hands didn’t construct our indestructible heavenly home, but our Savior’s outstretched hands nailed to the cross made it possible for us to one day live there.
