A Time Apart
The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers. 1 Peter 3:12
Many people want to work for God, but they don't want to spend time with God. They are content with busyness instead of calmness, instead of walking quietly in the presence of a Friend.
God calls us to work for Him because there is no place in Christian life for laziness or a lack of diligence. But God also calls us to be with Him: "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while" (Mark 6:31).
Jesus, we read, "in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed" (Mark 1:35). If the Son of God needed time alone with His Father, how much more do we?
It is not easy to shut out the world, set aside a few minutes by yourself, and spend time in God's Word and prayer. But it is essential if we are to grow in our relationship with God and be strengthened for the battles ahead. Don't delay. Begin now to spend time alone with God every day.
