Be ye doers of the Word…

James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

What does it mean to be “doers of the Word?

When the Word of God is preached, it will and does produce some type of action. We want to look at Scripture and discuss some of those actions taken when the Word of God is heard!

  1. Response – All folks when they hear the Word respond! I read about in Luke chapter 17 and verse 12 about Jesus healing 10 lepers. Only one humbled himself and came back to thank Jesus for healing him. Jesus replied “Thy faith hath made thee whole.” Ten received healing, one received healing and salvation because of his faith.
  2. Repentance – Some folks when they hear the Word will repent! I read about in John chapter 4 the story of the woman at the well. John 4:39 - And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

John 4:40 - So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

John 4:41 - And many more believed because of his own word;

  1. Rejection – Some folks when they hear the Word will reject it! I read about a rich young ruler in Luke 18 that says he wanted to inherit eternal life, but Jesus knowing his heart said, “Go sell all you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; and come follow Me!” The man went away sorrowful! Why? Jesus knew the man’s heart!
  2. Rejoicing – Jesus tells us in Matthew 5 to rejoice when we are persecuted for living for Him.

In Luke 10:20 Jesus tells us to rejoice that our names are written in heaven.

What is your response when you hear the Word of God?
