The Old Paths

Jeremiah 6:16

"Thus, saith the LORD, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein."

I grew up on a dairy farm in Georgia. Many times, my cousins and I would wander the paths that wound all through the hills and woods. On one of our wanderings, we had got off the old paths and realized that we were lost. We spent the next hour or so searching for a familiar path. When we found that old path, what a relief and sense of rest we felt.

Life is like that sometimes for all of us. We wander away from the old paths that have proven to be trustworthy and find ourselves perplexed about which way to go. 

In times like that we do well to begin to look again for those good old paths. Those old paths for successful Christian living are found in the pages of God’s Word. Jesus said in John 5:39 - Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 

 When we walk in them, we are promised that we will find rest for our souls.
