Speak No Evil

James 4:11 - Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

James 4:12 - There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

We all probably know someone who has a critical attitude toward others. These types of people seem to always have something negative to say about others and never speak words of encouragement or give compliments.

If challenged about their negative attitudes or words, they are quick to say, “I was only kidding,” or “You can’t take a joke!” It is never their fault that others are offended by their comments or attitude.

God uses James to caution us to avoid speaking evil about each other. In fact, we are instructed by the Apostle Paul in Colossians 4:6 - Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Jesus commands us in John 13:34 - A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
