Speaking a Word in Season
Col 4:6 “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye
may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Our words reveal so much about who we are and what we believe. We have
instructions here and in many others places in the Bible about the
importance of speaking the right words at the right time.
Our words ought to be acceptable words, as we read in Ecclesiastes 12:10
which says, “The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that
which was written was upright, even words of truth.”
Our words ought to be comforting according to Isaiah 50:4 which says, “The
Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how
to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning, he
wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”
Our words ought to be wholesome as we read in I Timothy 6:3 which says
for us to teach wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This can only be accomplished as we trust God to help us speak words that
are acceptable, comforting, and wholesome remembering what Jesus has
taught us in Matthew 12:36, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men
shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”
