Being A Good Steward
I Corinthians 4:1-2
Of course, we all know (I think) that God calls us to give our first and best to Him financially. But good Christian stewardship goes far beyond money. If everything we have belongs to God, that includes not just our paycheck but our:
- Bodies – God gifted each of us with a body. Our children and grandchildren should see us keeping it in the best shape possible by staying active, eating sensibly, and keeping up with annual medical check ups. I Corinthians 6:19-20
- Minds – I don’t want my children or anyone else to think that their education ends when they are handed a high school or college diploma. Our brain is a muscle and it needs exercise just like every other muscle in our bodies. What better way to show God gratitude for the amazing computer He has placed between our ears than by keeping it strong and teaching your children and grandchildren to do the same. I Corinthians 1:10, II Corinthians 13:11, Be ye of one mind, Philippians 1:27, Stand fast in one Spirit, with one mind, striving together, for the faith of the gospel. Philippians 2:5, Let this mind be in you which also was in Christ Jesus.
- Time – How much time do our children see us watching television, talking on the phone, or surfing the net? How does that compare to the time we devote to doing the Lord’s work, studying His Word, and actively listening to Him? Ephesians 5:16, Redeeming the time for the days are evil. Colossians 4:5, Walk in wisdom to them that are without, redeeming the time.
- Talents – Ephesians 4:11-12, And He gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. You see here that we are all gifted differently and that our gifts are for the edifying of the church body. I Corinthians 12 :13 – 25
We all need each other. God has placed us together for a reason, for a purpose. Will we let Him work through us? Lay aside any petty jealousies. Work in oneness, let’s all go forward for the Lord!
Are you being a good steward of your body, mind, time, and talents?
